Advertising! why good??

When it comes to advertising, there is always two sides to it. Either good or bad. Some say it is good and some say it is bad. However,i feel advertising is good.
Reasons:
  • It is a method of jobs for a lot of people because it makes and creates jobs.
  • Secondly, advertising reduces selling cost as to making bit of profit for the company.
  • Increases company profit( beneficial for the economy)
  • Creates exposure
  • With out advertisement not a single farm or company can grow in this world of competition.
  • Informs people about products,people,events
  • generate awareness among public that which product they use and to which product they can say no.
  •  It can also be used to educate people about certain diseases or danger(eg. Dengue,HIV to name a few)
  • Charities can use media to advertise about the illnesses and encourage people for donations.
  • Social organizations and NGOs can use the mean of advertisement for promoting their campaigns.

There are two types of advertisements, informative advertisements and commercial advertisements. Informative advertisements are informative. These advertisements are used to inform us about health issues, political issues, social issues, religious issues etc. Commercial advertisements informs people about goods and products in the market.
The commercial advertising easily leads to the rise in consumerism of the society due to these three reasons. Firstly, advertising provides people with lots of purchasing choices, which make people, especially women, form a desire of spending money on the products recommended on advertisements. Secondly, particularly young people are easily persuaded or attracted by advertisements due to the techniques such as inviting stars to arrouse attention applied by advertising producers. Consequently, people cannot distinguish what they need and what they want and buy many things which are initially unnecessary. Furthermore, it is possible for advertising to lead a fashion trend in society which many people like to run after, which makes excess consumption a serious problem not only for individuals but for the whole society.

We in New Zealand live and prosper in a dynamic economy. Ours has been and is an economy of relative abundance which has succeeded in bringing about a material well-being never before known in history. It is an economy which emphasizes consumption!

There are also various blames that advertising is causing negative social impact on lives. Even if advertising has a vast good impacts on society, it can be ruled out that is has bad impact also. It plays with the emotions of general public and encourages them to think that buying and depleting are the activities of life. Advertising posters of modern films, where sexuality is shown much than the actual theme of the movie, can divert the society a lot.

  2. Hey Pretisha,

interesting topic, never realised the importance of advertising until I read your blog! I like how you list all the reasons why it's good my favourite being it creates exposure, which I agree with. How else are consumers or the target audience going to buy or be interested in the product. This blog would be great for anyone learning sales in business. I like that your topic made me think about something I never thought relevant until now.

    Thanks,

I like how you have pinpointed all the reasons you think advertising is good as it makes it very clear for readers. It makes readers think about advetising and how its used in day to day life without us even knowing! Good stuff.
